May Madness

The end of the year comes with a full month of activities and events. Sometimes, I refer to it as "May Madness".  It is a busy month full of fun, field trips, parties, events and even sadness as our 5th graders move on to middle school and some of our friends move to other schools or even to different states over the summer. This May has been no different. We started the month with an excellent performance by Ballet Folklorico. The participating students worked so hard to learn the dances of each region and Ms. Tarpley, Ms. De La Rosa, Ms. Garza, and Ms. Portillo taught them well.

Also this month, Mr. Cumings has been teaching all of the 5th grade students to play chess. They have been enjoying it immensely and look forward to it every week. They are even having a chess tournament.

We also celebrated Oak Hill once again earning status as a No Place for Hate campus. Here is a picture of our campus doing a dance to celebrate.

The book fair last week was so groovy dude! What a great event to have to wind down the year and to grab some books for summer reading.

We also had our last hip hop performance of the year on our very last Friday of the school year. It was great, as usual.

The 5th grade student council members attended Austin ISD’s Leadership Symposium for elementary students. They were able to hear Dr. Cruz speak and talked with students from other schools about diversity.  It was a great opportunity for the students.

The fifth grade students also attended Reunion Ranch for their 5th grade end of year trip.  While it was a bit muggy, the weather held and they were able to enjoy a full day of fun.  I know the students had a great time and look forward to this end of the year celebration!

Second graders did an awesome job at their end of year talent show. There were singers, magicians, gymnasts, dancers, and more. We have some very talented students!

This time of the year is a time of celebration. We have another year of learning under our belts and have made great gains. On Wednesday, we will celebrate the fifth grade students with their promotion ceremony. They have spent the last six years of their life in elementary school and this is a huge step on their educational journey.

I still can’t believe that this is the last week of school. This year has really flown by!
